Park City High School Senior Gains National Honor

Park City High School senior Skylar Goldman was named by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as one of 141 students nationwide who've been named U.S. Presidential Scholars.

Two students from each state are chosen annually by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. Fifteen more students are chosen at-large, and another 20 nationwide are named Presidential Scholars in the Arts.

Skylar named Maureen Amendola as her most inspiring and challenging teacher. Amendola is a chemistry teacher at the High School. She and Skylar will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in June where she will receive a Presidential Scholar Medallion and Amendola will receive a Teacher Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Education

Andrew Johnson, Riverton High School Senior, was the other student from Utah who received the award. He named Melissa Brown a math teacher at Riverton High as his most influential teacher.
